Happy Easter to all! Here it is, Easter Morning and it’s a beautiful day.
I’m looking out into the back yard and seeing the lawn turning green and all
the buds on the trees starting to sprout……oh, wait, I’m having a dream. Yes,
my backyard looks just like yours, full of snow. It’s cold, there is snow
everywhere, and not that white stuff either, it’s the dirty, grimy horrible
stuff that just sits there and looks ugly. Now, I think I have the right
year. Well, Trivia is just 3 weeks away. I’m thinking that 3 weeks from
today, just how tired we will all be and still about 15 hours of questions
to go. Isn’t it exciting?
The Trivia Invasion: I know that many of you were fearful that I would have
another theme with my new hip for the logo. Fear not, anyone who wants to
see it, let me know, I’ll get it for you. You should see it, it’s really
cool. It’s a little different from the other one, but hey, I guess you
really don’t want to see it. Darn. The Trivia Invasion: it really is
nostalgia that the very roots of our music inspired this group of British
musicians and had them turn the tables on us to show us the music that we
had right in our hands and needed them to show us what we were missing. Now,
if somebody could show the writers how to write a decent television sitcom.
IT’S SUCH A DESERT OUT THERE…..
John and I are just about done with the contest. The table survived another
year and my basement is really getting full. How can we just keep collecting
so much junk? I guess the big question is, how can we feel so good about it?
Anyway, John and I hope that you enjoy the contest.
The Trivia Kickoff movie is “Special”. Isn’t that special? Ok, forgive me, I
couldn’t help it. “Special” will be shown Friday and Saturday April 4 and 5.
There will be midnight shows both nights and a 10:?? showing on Saturday
morning. I don’t know the exact time yet, but it will be either 10 or 10:30.
The show will be on the Rogers Mega-Screen at the Rogers Cinema on Church
Street in Stevens Point. Admission is still $3:00 at the door. Trivia
Kickoff Movie, good and good for you. See you all there.
STV will be broadcasting the contest again. As far as people in other
communities, we haven’t the final lineup of where they will be broadcasting.
So, a big salute to STV and a great staff this year. Here’s hoping for
continued growth in the future.
As in the past, I have been working with the Portage County AODA. This is a
good idea and most of you should know all these things, just a reminder.
GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS DURING TRIVIA WEEK-END
IF HOSTING A PARTY….
EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO BE SAFE— Children, Youth, Teens, Students, Adults
· Set ground rules with own children and let parents of other
children coming know what they are. ( a sheet of written rules and
consequences helps all remember.)
· Understand local and state laws and consequences about curfew, and
use of alcohol and other drugs by underage youth.
· Have plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages available.
· Ask parents of students coming to your home to help with food and
supervision.
· Arrange for one or more responsible adults to be awake and aware at
all times.
DURING THE PARTY:
· Avoid easy access to alcohol for anyone under 21 years of age
· Notify any parent whose child arrives under the influence of
alcohol or any other drug to come and pick them up. If parents are not
available call the police.
· IF a teen arrives at the party with alcohol or other drugs,
confiscate, and call parents or police for assistance.
If YOUR TEEN IS ATTENDING A PARTY:
* Know where and for how long they will be there
* Don’t hesitate to call the parents hosting and checking out
guidelines and also offer to help with food or chaperoning.
* Make plans ahead of time with your teen on how to handle situations
of concern.
* Allow the teen to call for a ride home at any time they have a
concern.
* Phone the hosting family the next day and thank them for their
hospitality.
Youth need boundaries and clear expectations with consequences. Although
they may hassle you about them, the option of attending a party with
boundaries or not attending any party will help them make the right choice.
Team registration will again be $30.00 per team. Registration will be Monday
through Thursday from 3 until 7 and Friday from noon until 6, the week of
April 7th. Registration forms are available on line at HYPERLINK
"http://www.90fmtrivia.org/"www.90fmtrivia.org to speed up the process. We
will again have an assortment of goodies for sale. The special item this
year is car flags. In addition, there will be more onesies. With the
purchase of $250.00 worth of goods, registration is free. With the purchase
of $125.00 worth of goods, registration is $15.00. We will be taking
pre-orders on the internet as well as selling items online for those who
can’t make it to Stevens Point. I think you will like the logo. The prices
of goods will follow in the next mailing.
Each question in the contest might run for two songs, except singing
questions which run for three songs, and the final question which will run
for one song. Each team is limited to one call per question. Each question
is worth 2000 points divided by three plus the number of teams answering it
correctly, rounded up to the next value divisible by 5, maximum of 500
points per team per question. Just before the top 5 or 10 teams are read at
the end of the newscast, we will announce the point values of the previous
hour's questions. Of course there will still be the two running questions.
We ask that teams do not collaborate with other teams and that the contest
be treated as what it is, a game. Scores will be kept up to date about every
four hours on the internet at the trivia web site, www.90fmtrivia.org and on
cable access television. After the contest begins, we will give out the
Trivia Complaint line phone number. It is to be used for legitimate
complaints concerning the validity of an answer. If your score does not
match ours, ours is right. Please feel free to tape record and playback any
part of the contest, in fact, you should use tape recorders because we will
not repeat questions. However, no part of the contest may be broadcast or
reproduced without the permission of 90FM including the pictures in the New
Trivia Times. This includes reprinting of the questions for resale.
Well, 3 weeks to go. The New Trivia Times team really kicked it in the butt
this year. Thanks to Jason Splinter, Chris Wiza, Gwynn Kawski, Wayne
Semmerling and Bethann Laars. WOW! I ready to get into spring. John’s ready
for spring. We’re both ready for belly to back suplexes. We are ready to
have nothing but Trivia. What a weekend, not only while it is going on, but
building up to it. It’s getting close, Kickoff movie, hits week all week
before and Trivia warm-up beginning at 9am, the parade at 4pm and then at
6pm, the crash, the excitement, the hair standing up on the back of your
neck, the masters are here, the world holds its breath, and it really does,
“Born to be Wild”, question 1, sweat pouring down my face and it’s all
Trivia. Can you feel it? Let’s get down to it, I mean let’s play Trivia,
Fast Eddie……………………………………
