TRIVIA 38: TRIVIA RETURNS
NEWSLETTER
Trivia Returns: "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a
locomotive, able to leap tall building in a single bound", well, it sure
does speed past, the time, that is. Life takes some strange twists,
emotional upheaval, a little bit of a health issue, and presto, it's Trivia
time again. Old age creeps slowly upon us, yet, Trivia Returns, time after
time to renew us, to bring us the spark of youth. Let's go, it's time to get
that electric charge that can't be equaled, Trivia. April 20, 21, 22 is
going to be another one of those weekends, when time stands still, the
heartaches and body aches seem to take a back seat to the magic that is
Trivia.
At first, "Trivia Returns" was just a title that I was able to come up
with for lack of anything else. But as the time has past and events have
played themselves out, "Trivia Returns" is very meaningful. Trivia Returns,
life returns, our stability returns, and many times, even our health
returns. So, a big salute to those who look forward to the return of this
event every year. You are what really returns..
The questions are nearly ready, and with them comes the chaos in the
basement, the mess, the insanity, the laughs, the shaky table, the
diabolical pictures and the never ending food, which may turn to a steady
diet of Jell-o, but we will see how that plays out.
The Trivia Kickoff Movie will be at the Rogers Mega Screen Cinema on
Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 at midnight and again at 10am on
Saturday April 14. Doors open at 11:15pm and 9:30am respectively. Admission
is $3.00. Now, you are all wondering what it is.."Live Free or Die". It is a
2006 movie, written by 2 of the Sienfeld writing staff. The stars are medium
level stars and looks like it is going to be a great time. Of course, it
always is, except for "Georgia".
STV will be broadcasting the contest again. As far as people in other
communities, we haven't the final lineup of where they will be broadcasting.
So, a big salute to STV and a great staff this year. Here's hoping for
continued growth in the future.
I was contacted by the fine people from the Portage County Alliance for
Youth Prevention Committee and Portage County AODA Coalition. I feel that
their message is important, and I totally agree with it. Please keep these
ideas in mind when planning your Trivia Weekend activities. Participating in
Trivia Week-end is a community event known far and wide. There are the
serious players who plan accordingly and don't let alcohol impair their
judgment in finding answers. There are others who see it as a fun social
time and that is what it is meant to be.
If you are hosting a party for adults, teen or middle school student,
remember to keep it safe by being alcohol and other drug free. Adult
supervision is a safety for you the host giver and for the youth who attend.
Our children deserve an environment that enhances more right answers and
higher scores.
Team registration will again be $30.00 per team. Registration will be
Monday through Thursday from 3 until 7 and Friday from noon until 6, the
week of April 16th. REGISTRATION WILL BE THROUGH THE CENTER DOORS OF THE
COMMUNICATIONS ARTS BUILDING. PLEASE ENTER THROUGH THE CENTER DOORS.
Registration forms are available on line at www.90fmtrivia.org to speed up
the process. We will again have an assortment of goodies for sale. The
special item this year is beverage wrenches. In addition, there will be more
onesies. With the purchase of $250.00 worth of goods, registration is free.
With the purchase of $125.00 worth of goods, registration is $15.00. We will
be taking pre-orders on the internet as well as selling items online for
those who can't make it to Stevens Point. I think you will like the logo.

Each question in the contest might run for two songs, except singing
questions which run for three songs, and the final question which will run
for one song. Each team is limited to one call per question. Each question
is worth 2000 points divided by three plus the number of teams answering it
correctly, rounded up to the next value divisible by 5, maximum of 500
points per team per question. Just before the top 5 or 10 teams are read at
the end of the newscast, we will announce the point values of the previous
hour's questions. Of course there will still be the two running questions.
We ask that teams do not collaborate with other teams and that the contest
be treated as what it is, a game. Scores will be kept up to date about every
four hours on the internet at the trivia web site, www.90fmtrivia.org and on
cable access television. After the contest begins, we will give out the
Trivia Complaint line phone number. It is to be used for legitimate
complaints concerning the validity of an answer. If your score does not
match ours, ours is right. Please feel free to tape record and playback any
part of the contest, in fact, you should use tape recorders because we will
not repeat questions. However, no part of the contest may be broadcast or
reproduced without the permission of 90FM including the pictures in the New
Trivia Times. This includes reprinting of the questions for resale.
Well, it's less than a month away, the mayhem, the sleeplessness, the
music, the food, the parade, the running questions, the stone clues and all
of it is Trivia. As we head into this 38th Trivia, a little scarred both
physically and emotionally, I would like to thank all those who were there
for me, and those who were there for John. Like they say, there is no crying
in baseball. Thank you, also, to the staff of the New Trivia Times, Mary
Stroik, Gwynn Kawski, Marla Cummings, Jason and Jenelle Splinter, and Scott
and Jen Page. Of course, thanks to the executive staff at 90FM, who put this
all together, and learn as they enjoy. So, with this strange year almost
behind us, get ready for the biggest sigh of relief you have ever heard. Get
ready for some excitement and probably too much fun..nah, can't happen. It's
all there for all of us to enjoy and rock our socks off. It's once a year
that we get together with those friends who have made the last umpteen years
of our lives what they are. It's something that we can't explain to those
who just don't get it. It is time to gather around the radio, knowing that a
new mayor will be kicking off Trivia Weekend, knowing that I take this
opportunity to ask you if you are ready to play Trivia, Fast Eddie.....
